Enrichment Clusters
Our
out-of-classroom teaching specialists make available a program of class
offerings known as “enrichment clusters.” The clusters have been
designed to permit each student an opportunity to explore an area of
particular interest. All students in grades 3, 4, and 5 are offered the
enrichment cluster experience. Students select from a list that
includes art, science, music, and mathematics based projects and
activities that vary among grades and years. The goal for each cluster
is to provide each student with an experience that applies learning
about a content area of the student’s choosing to real life,
culminating in a project. Current clusters include guitar instruction,
learning about tropical fish, ‘finding’ your own singing voice, and the
design of paper airplanes. Past projects have included creating a field
guide for bird watching, making scarves for senior citizens, producing
a cookbook of Egyptian dishes, performances and building our Library’s
spectacular fish tank. Students rank three enrichment cluster
preferences, but may consult with the teachers to better understand
their options. Enrichment clusters, also known as “clubs”, are
scheduled twice a year, for sixteen weeks at a time. Schedule: Fifth
graders, 1st period Friday; third graders, 1st period Thursday; fourth
graders, 1st period Wednesday.
